With the help of a talented writer and a surprising medical finding, Mary attempts to convince the world of her gift and to convert a nation of cynics into believers.
Now and at the Hour of Our Death challenges our notions of faith and science, all while asking the eternal question What do you believe?

I just finished this page turner.I have never read anything quite like this book about an innocent young girl and the lives she touches. At the beginning of the book, Mary, an innocent seventeen year old virgin, different from the majority of other characters her age, has great aspirations; she wants to bring people back to God.
The contemporary world inhabited by Mary and the other interesting characters mirrors the state of our world today, right this minute. We live in strange times, and people seem to have lost their way. Mary, with her strong faith, and belief in the good of others, is a shining light throughout the book, even after some hard lessons in which she learns a profound truth: Evil exists-it always has and it always will. But, good exists as well, and faith, and hope, and love.
The characters are entertaining, even the ones I found myself disliking, and the way things played out gave me plenty of food for thought. Mary had her own ideas at the beginning of the book, about how she would change the world, but God had other plans.
I plan to recommend this book to my college aged nieces.(less)

Now and at the Hour of Our Death JSB Morse 9781600200540 Books Reviews
I can't believe I managed to read the whole thing. Blah. Everyone is a stereotype. Waste of time and money.
I purchased this based on some reviews that highly recommended it. I hope to avoid this mistake in the future. The author's consistent use of scientific language to describe physical reactions to stimuli was extremely irritating. The repetition of certain flowery words such as "visage" made me wonder what was wrong with the word "face." I kept reading even though early on the dialogue, characters and descriptions were embarrassingly bad. I was convinced there must be a reason for the creating such one dimensional characters which would be revealed as the story progressed. Never happened - the style which would have been disappointing even to pre-teens remained shallow to the end.
This inspiring book with religious themes started off slow enough to establish the characters, which caused me to be invested in them, and wanting to know what happened next. The climax of the book took me on an emotional roller coaster. This was a nice page turner, and I would definitely read other books by this author.
Book full of cliche and unoriginality. Cool concept, executed how I would it to be, and just kinda okay.
This book was hard to put down. I had to keep reading on. I really enjoy books that are like that. The story has lots of twists and turns and what you may expect doesn't always end up happening. This book is great for anyone that enjoys a stories of hope that include drama, twists, and turns. The only thing I thought could have been better is Morse is sometimes very wordy in his writing when describing things. Despite that the book isn't very long.
With unexpected surprises around every corner, Now and at the Hour of Our Death weaves an intriguing web where several important themes intersect to create a story that combines the drama of a tragically wounded modern culture with timeless hope and joy. Mr. Morse ambitiously tackles numerous deep and controversial topics and does so in a highly entertaining, quick read (especially for a book of 400+ pages) with the suspense of a thriller. The wide array of characters are extraordinary yet believable and the reader will relate them to oneself, one’s friends and family or those we see in the most gripping news stories of our time. Certain characters and ideas could have been explored more thoroughly, but at the same time, unanswered questions and mystery stimulate the reader’s imagination and wonder in a way that is central to the book’s core theme of belief. Although the book covers Christian themes, it provides a fair and balanced perspective appropriate for believers and atheists alike. I suspect any reader who doesn’t love it will love to hate it!
The book Now and at the Hour of Our Death is described as a story about believing in a world full of non-believers. While this message certainly resonates throughout the pages, the author appears to be making another point in the book. This one involves the positive effects of listening with an open mind in a society filled with distractions and narrow-mindedness.
Mary Credence believes in miracles. She believes that she is part of a miracle in her own life. Whether the reader believes her or not is a subjective matter. The author reveals the circumstances leading to Mary's potential miracle by introducing characters who fall into two categories a) those who will listen to her and take her message with an open mind and b) those who shut down their channels of communication as soon as they hear Mary's story and refuse to take in a potential new way of looking at their worlds, whether because of ignorance or selfish motives.
Some of the book's characters who listen to Mary's message end up siding with her. Others may still not believe, but they've been exposed to new ideas and new ways of thinking. These are the feel-good characters in the book - the ones that the reader wants to root for. Those who refuse to hear Mary's message succumb to society's temptations. They are easily swayed to whatever society's "thought of the day" is, because they have refused to listen to any idea that could potentially open up their minds to new ways of thinking. These close-minded characters clearly remain stagnant throughout the book, and they can be easily dismissed as unfulfilled in life.
Whether or not a reader agrees with what Mary believes, the ideas presented in this book are worth a read. The writing and storyline are engaging, the characters are well developed with diverse views to help the author tell the story, and plot twists keep the reader turning pages until the end. After reading Now and at the Hour of Our Death, perhaps the reader will be exposed to a new perspective and new ideas to consider when making everyday decisions in life. Quickly dismissing these ideas could result in the same fate as many of the author's unfulfilled characters.
